Business are often won or lost on a few key phrases. However, while business communication has taking on a more casual tone, many of us fall into common buzz-word and verbal traps. The bottom line is, if you are going to gain the trust of a customer, you have to be smart enough to properly use affect/effect, compliment/complement, adverse/averse, its/it’s, you’re/your, etc. Just like a single spelling mistake in your resume can put off recruiters, the misuse of words in your business communication can end up sending the wrong message. Moreover, buzz words are an immediate deal breaker. I tend to discredit anyone who uses them. So pick your words wisely!
